I got a Fabi and the large doll die with it. I've never made a doll before, so I will have to figure it out...but appliques here I come!
Anyway, my goal has been to make things to decorate for the upcoming holidays (I did these pumpkins already), so I've been planning to make a fall table runner with some leaf appliques. A few weeks ago, I found some leaf outlines online that I wanted and even printed them out. Then I won the Fabi, which I knew would be perfect for this project. Who needs to cut when I can die cut! So I found a Sizzix die that had leaves (so many to choose from!) and ordered it for $12 on Amazon...not bad!
I bought several different color of batik type solids that were fall-ish leaf colors and used a few colors that I already had in my stash. Here's what the top looks like:
The design was super simple - linen for the main body and a leaf pattern border. I made the size to fit my hall table. Most of the work was deciding on how many appliques I wanted to use and where to put them. All the leaves were from my Fabi die and then I decided to cut out a few acorns by hand. I was worried at first that with only 3 different shapes that there would not be enough variety, but I cut out the 3 shapes in 6 different colors and it worked out just fine.
I still have to quilt it, but I'm really happy with the way it came out! I'm trying to decide now if I want to do make another one for our entertainment center and the dining table or if I want to do another pattern. Decisions, decisions!
I can't wait to buy some more Sizzix dies! Plus they will be at the International Quilt Festival in Houston this month, so I'm excited about stopping by their booth!
Until later, happy sewing!
