We moved into our house last summer, and I haven't done much decoration in general...let alone any holiday decorations. In fact, we were gone for Christmas last year, and I didn't put up many decorations in 2014 other than a few Halloween ones which were mostly outside.
I really wanted to do some fall decor this year, so I decided that my entry way was going to get tackled first. I saw this and table runner pattern and was inspired:
I decided that I wanted to make some patchwork pumpkin wall hangings. So, I found an outline of a pumpkin and printed it out. Then I used some 2.5" squares in orange to form a large enough piece of patchwork to cut out my pumpkin applique. I backed the applique with Steam-a seam and then ironed that applique onto some linen. I then stitched around the edges with some zig-zags, then stretched it on some stretcher bars on top of some batting.
I didn't take any pictures of the steps of my process...sorry! But I found this blog post by Connecting Threads that basically did the same thing.
Actually I made two of them to go around our photo wall. Here they are in my entry way...
I'm happy with the way they came out, although I feel like I probably could have quilted them and put in a little more embellishment to jazz them up. Oh well! I was really just trying to get this project done though so I could move onto the next one! Maybe next year I'll do a little something more with them, but I'm good for this year.
When Christmas rolls around I'm going to put some new wall hangings in this area anyway.
Until later, happy crafting!
